Watchmen

An adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's comic book series, this movie is set in alternate 1985 America, where superheroes exist and the tension between United States and Soviet Union is at the highest level. When one of his former colleagues was murdered, masked vigilante Rorschach reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion to uncover a plot to kill each and every one of their kind. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so, they discover an age-old conspiracy to change the balance of power in the world.

During early development in the early 1990s, mainly focused around the screenplay by Sam Hamm, early casting rumors included Robin Williams as Rorschach, Jamie Lee Curtis as Silk Spectre, Gary Busey as the Comedian, and both Richard Gere and Kevin Costner considered for the role of NiteOwl.

Alan Moore, writer of the original comic book was asked to write a script back in the late 1980s, but declined. The studio then enlisted in the aid of Sam Hamm.

Producers Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin tried hard to get Ron Perlman (Hellboy) green-lighted to play The Comedian.

Both Tom Cruise and Jude Law expressed interest in the role of Ozymandias.

Zack Snyder personally asked Dave Gibbons, the artist who drew the original graphic novel, to design the first teaser poster for the film. Gibbons enthusiastically agreed and designed the poster to have subtle visual clues hinting at the film's plot.

Though author Alan Moore preemptively disowned all filmed adaptations of his work, Zack Snyder has said that his ultimate hope is that someday Moore will actually see the film and feel that it is a decent representation of the original graphic novel.

When asked in an interview with ReelzChannel.com about original Watchmen writer Alan Moore's dismissal of his movie, Snyder was quoted as saying "Worst case scenario - Alan puts the movie on his DVD player on a cold Sunday in London and watches and says, 'Yeah, that doesn't suck too bad.'" When this was brought up with Moore himself in a later interview in the British Tripwire comics fanzine, the writer commented "That's the worst case scenario? I think he's underestimated what the worst case scenario would be... that's never going to happen in my DVD player in 'London' [Moore very famously lives in Northampton]. I'm never going to watch this fucking thing."

Warner Bros. initially considered Darren Aronofsky to direct. Aronofsky did express interest in the project, but found the original story dated. Specifically, the director planned to update the story to the contemporary era and replace the Vietnam War references with those of Iraq and terrorism. Uncomfortable with the direction Aronofsky wanted to take, Warner Bros. hired Zack Snyder who had just directed a highly-faithful adaptation of 300 (2006) to great acclaim.

Carla Gugino (Sally Jupiter) and Malin Akerman (Laurie Juspeczyk) play mother and daughter in this film. They have also played love interests of Ben Stiller. Gugino played Rebecca Hutman in Night at the Museum (2006) and Akerman played Lila in The Heartbreak Kid (2007). In real life, Gugino is only seven years older than Akerman.

When offered the role of Adrian Veidt, Matthew Goode had never read the graphic novel. He called a friend who had and asked if he should even both to read the script. Not only did the friend say yes, he insisted that Goode immediately read the graphic novel and accept the role without question. Later, after he read both the script and the novel, Goode admitted his friend was right to make him take the role without delay.

Michael Bay (Transformers) was considered to direct the movie back in 2003 but turn down the offer.

The trailer features the song "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" by Smashing Pumpkins, which was originally a B-Side for the single "The End is the Beginning is the End", the theme from Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin (1997).

This film is based on the Street Fighter: Alpha series and focuses on the events that happened before the original Street Fighter and World Warrior tournaments thus the characters of Ryu and Ken was not included in the film.

Rick Yune was originally cast as Gen but has been replaced by Robin Shou, who portrayed Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat films.

This is Taboo's (of Black Eyed Peas) third time to star in a full-length movie.

The film was inspired by the BCCI, or Bank of Credit & Commerce International, banking scandal, which took place throughout the 80s and into the early 90s.

After badly received previews, the film was pushed back from its August 2008 release date to February 2009 to allow reshoots to turn it into more of an action film - only for the film to be released in the middle of the worst banking crisis in US history, undermining the film's premise of an unstoppable bank dictating political policy.

In interviews promoting the film, Owen insisted he was not afraid of badgers despite previous comments to him contrary.

The movie is produced by Michael Bay (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island, Transformers) and Brad Fuller, who together produced The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror, and the original Friday the 13th producer/director Sean Cunningham.

The character of Sheriff Bracke, played by Richard Burgi, is named after author Peter Bracke, who wrote the book Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th.

Tommy Jarvis, a character that appeared in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985), and Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) was at one point confirmed by producers Bradley Fuller and Andrew Form of Platinum Dunes to be returning as Jason's nemesis. Later on, the idea was scrapped when they abandoned their initial efforts of doing an origin story.

Form and Fuller said that in this remake, the audience will get to see how Jason attains his hockey mask, and be given a reason for why he puts it on.

Stuntman Derek Mears was hired to portray Jason Voorhees at the recommendation of makeup special effects supervisor Scott Stoddard. He's required to wear full body make-up from the chest up while performing his duties as Jason.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Based on the novel "The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic" by British chick lit author Sophie Kinsella, this tells the story of a college grad named Rebecca Bloomwood, a sweet and charming New York City girl who has a shopping addiction and drowning in a sea of debt because of it. She dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine but can't quite get her foot in the door -- until ironically, she snags a job as an advice columnist for a financial magazine published by the same company.

PJ Hogan directs this film. Other movie he directed were Muriel's Wedding, My Best Friend's Wedding and Peter Pan.

He's Just Not That Into You

Based on the self-help book of the same name by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, this chronicles the romantic misadventures of several individuals in their twenties and thirties. The common thread is that one person in each relationship is more "into" the other person than vice versa. At the core of these multiple stories is Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin), a young woman who repeatedly misinterprets the signs that men give her about their level of interest in her. The more experienced and romantically successful Alex (Justin Long), the manager of a bar, advises her on how to understand men.

Other plotlines include married couple Janine (Jennifer Connelly) and Ben (Bradley Cooper), who are going through a rough patch—leading him to flirt with Anna (Scarlett Johansson), an aspiring singer. Anna, in turn, is dating Connor (Kevin Connolly), but is clearly less into him than he is into her. The final major plot arc is Neil (Ben Affleck) and Beth's (Jennifer Aniston) story. They have cohabited for several years, but break up when Beth desires to get married and Neil refuses.

Coraline

Based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, this film is about a young girl, Coraline, who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home and enters into a parallel reality, a fantastical and thrilling imitation of her own dull life. In this world, Coraline finds a new version of her real mother and father, her off-kilter neighbors, and the Cat. The only difference is that they all possess big, black buttons for eyes (All except for the Cat). However, this other world soon begins to unravel and Coraline, along with her real parents, become prisoners to her Other Mother and must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.

Trivia:

Coraline is the first stop-motion animation to be shot stereoscopically with a dual digital camera rig for digital 3-D exhibition.

In the trailer, when they show Coraline's other father he is wearing Monkeybone slippers. Monkeybone (2001), was another film directed by Caroline's director, Henry Selick.

The 'Ranft Bros. Moving Company' that moves Coraline's family into their home, are based on real-life brothers Jerome Ranft and Joe Ranft. Both brothers did work on The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) with Director Henry Selick.

Originally, alternative rock group They Might Be Giants was recruited to create the music for the film including the score, but only one song ended up being used. However, they stated that the unused songs would later be included on future albums, for example, "Careful What You Pack" from The Else.
